Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
14” MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB RAM (2021)
I was using an Window machine prior to this and the difference is night and day. I’ve never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through with our various launch simulations.
LG Monitor 29WQ600-W 29” Ultrawide
I’ve tried a lot of displays over the years and this is the only one that doesn’t make me feel like I’m working on a display. It’s just like a window into the world of my computer.
Keychron K2
I’ve been using this keyboard for a few months now and I’m really happy with it. It’s the first mechanical keyboard I’ve used that doesn’t make me feel like I’m typing on a typewriter.
Logitech MX Master 3
I’ve tried a lot of mice and this is the only one that doesn’t make my hand hurt after a few hours of use.
Energy System Headphones
I’ve tried a lot of headphones and these are the only ones that don’t make my ears hurt after a few hours of use.
Development tools
Visual Studio Code
I’ve tried to switch to other editors but I always end up back here. It’s just the best.
iTerm2
I’m honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren’t just part of the macOS Terminal but it’s what I use.
Docker
I’ve tried a lot of different ways to manage local development environments and Docker is the only one that’s stuck.
Git
I’ve tried a lot of version control systems and Git is the only one that’s stuck.
Design
Figma
I’m not a designer but I use Figma to create minimalistic designs for my projects.
Productivity
Notion
I use Notion to organize my life. I have a page for everything, from my daily tasks to my long-term goals, travel plans, and even my favorite recipes.
Apple Notes
I use Apple Notes for quick notes and to save links and articles.
iPhone & MacBook Pro Modes
I use the iPhone and MacBook Pro modes to reduce distractions and increase productivity.
